A longtime fan of auctions and the various items and opportunities they provide, I’m humbled by the auction companies that have gravitated to promote through Garage Style, and I hope you frequent them.
Coming up on July 16 and 17, Morphy Auctions will host their Automobilia, Petroliana, and Railroadiana sale. Featuring a staggering array of signs tempered by cans and posters and much more, there is absolutely something for any transportation enthusiast. The investment potential is there, and I’m pleased to see some of the paper products are commanding very healthy starting bids. Once again, I say it – buy original paper products. For the moment, they sell for easier prices, are infinitely rarer than most porcelain and neon, and are rising in value at an alarming clip. One of my favorites on offer at this sale is Lot 1181 – a Wagram Auto Driving School poster depicting a well-heeled automobile, a bus, and a motorcycle, all whisking along at what looks to be a spirited pace. While I adore the colors, the speed, and the variety, Wagram was one of Europe’s first and most respected driving schools that tossed norms out the window. Take a closer look at who’s driving the well-heeled car and who’s in the backseat. Working under the auspice of, “Les joies de pilotage,” or, “The joys of driving,” the Paris-based Wagram taught various skills to earn various licenses and through the omni talented art of Robert Falcucci, enticed interested people with inviting scenes all depicting freedom and adventure. Who could resist?
