Looking Back at Mecum’s 2026 Kissimmee Event

Looking Back at Mecum’s 2026 Kissimmee Event

Forza Ferrari!!  Long Live Enzo Ferrari!!

Those words could have echoed through the auction hall as the final hammer fell at Mecum Auctions’ wildly successful Kissimmee Sale.  With a breathtaking curation of Ferraris, spanning icons, modern legends, and delivery-miles time capsules, Mecum didn’t just host an auction, it set the tone for Ferrari market pricing heading into 2026.

At the center of this achievement was the Bachman family’s once-in-a-lifetime consignment: an extraordinary collection offering buyers the rare chance to acquire one-owner, delivery-mileage Ferraris.  The crescendo arrived with the sale of Jon Shirley’s Ferrari 250 GTO, chassis 3729GT – the halo car for any serious collector and one of the most storied Ferraris ever offered at public auction.

The Road to Super Saturday

The buildup to “Super Saturday” created palpable anticipation, and the results delivered – several Ferraris hammered at or above their high estimates.  Among the modern greats, the 2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale (Lot T244.1) stood tall.  Widely regarded as one of the finest-engineered Ferraris to leave Maranello this century, the Speciale sold for $687,500.  Alongside the Aperta, the Speciale continues its ascent as collectors recognize its purity, performance, and place as a last-of-its-kind, naturally aspirated V8 Ferrari.

The Bachman Collection Ignites the Room

Super Saturday left no one disappointed.  With a packed house and global attention, the Bachman Collection came out firing on all cylinders:

  • Ferrari 288 GTO – $8,525,000
  • Ferrari F40 (458 miles) – $6,600,000
  • Ferrari F40 (865 miles) – $5,830,000
  • Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale (Giallo Modena, 327 miles) – $1,155,000
  • Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale (Extra Campionario, 375 miles) – $1,870,000

The Challenge Stradales – especially in rare colors – are rapidly becoming coveted, and these results underscore their rising status among collectors.

The Icing on the Cake: F50 and Enzo

For many, the emotional high point of the Bachman Collection was the sale of two modern titans.  The Ferrari F50, showing just 252 miles, set a new benchmark at $12,210,000.  Moments later, the room erupted as the one-owner Ferrari Enzo, finished in Giallo Modena with only 649 miles, finally hammered at an astonishing $17,875,000, a result that exceeded expectations by a mile and brought the house to its feet.

The Belle of the Ball: Ferrari 250 GTO, Chassis 3729GT

The undisputed star of the sale was Jon Shirley’s Ferrari 250 GTO, chassis 3729GT, the only GTO delivered new in Bianco Speciale from the factory in Maranello.  With its extensive and successful competition history, long-term ownership, and meticulous stewardship, this was a sale watched around the world.

It was fitting to see renowned Ferrari collector David Lee emerge as the new caretaker.  One of the highlights of the evening was watching Dana Mecum expertly “coach” the bidding to a final price of $38,500,000.  While not a record, the result felt correct – a true market price for a blue-chip collectible.

Value in a GTO is never one-dimensional.  Rarity (one of just 36 built), configuration (one of eight right-hand-drive cars), provenance, originality, and history all factor into the perception.  In the end, value is determined by the buyer, and in this case, that buyer was David Lee.  Well-known for sharing his Ferraris with the world, he is an ideal caretaker for such an important car.  Seeing this GTO exercised at future events will be a privilege for enthusiasts everywhere.

A Defining Moment for the Ferrari Market

As the dust settles on Kissimmee, one thing is clear: Mecum’s Ferrari-focused curation delivered a defining moment for the collector car world.  Prices were strong, confidence was high, and the passion in the room was undeniable – an outcome that would surely have pleased Enzo Ferrari himself.

Enjoy your new purchase, David.  This GTO will create memories for you and your family that will last a lifetime, and inspire Ferrari lovers everywhere.

Forza Ferrari.  Long live Enzo Ferrari.
