The Shelby name has always been a hot one, but it seems the movie Ford v Ferrari has reinvigorated the brand. Even younger people, kids, are interested in the Shelby name now. They can even talk about Ken Miles and Lee Iacocca – it’s pretty interesting. Dean McLaren has long been a Shelby fan and often crafted Shelby-inspired pieces like gas pumps in Shelby livery and entire gas station islands in Shelby livery. His latest iteration is literally a cool testament to the man and the brand.
BEFORE
While Dean McLaren’s name isn’t as hot as Shelby’s, it has long been in the business of crafting some of the cleverest, coolest automotive pieces the world has ever known. We’ve featured him a few times including covering his workshop in Central California, a fascinating place filled with treasures and trinkets, some awaiting transformation into greatness, others awaiting placement.
AFTER
Recently, McLaren transformed an old General Electric refrigerator into a Shelby lover’s dream. Perfect anywhere it’s placed, the work of art features a number of twists and tricks including a Cobra nose at the bottom, the signature blue paint with white stripes, illuminated elements, a redefined interior and more to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. So impressive was the refrigerator that Shelby American in Las Vegas, Nevada placed the refrigerator on display in their showroom – yes, of course it’s for sale, isn’t everything?
