I’m very excited that Mecum Auctions is coming to my new hometown, Dallas! Looking forward to being able to attend one of their sales without having to travel more than an hour – I love going to auctions, I always have, and Mecum’s are always a lot of fun – they’re big, noisy, filled with energy, and people having a ball. Take a peek below at some of the items coming up for bid, as well as future auctions and their online format On Time. On Time has some terrific Rennsport and NASCAR items up for bid, along with a Buick-Pontiac-GMC dealership collection – tons of rare and interesting items between all the items up for bid – enjoy!
Motoring on from the recent auction at the National Motorcycle Museum, Mecum’s Road Art® division is headed back to the Lone Star State for Mecum Dallas 2023 with an eclectic selection of about 200 lots from collector Don Johnson, an assemblage that ranges from soda memorabilia and gas pumps, to clocks, oil cans and much, much more. Among the highlights at the Dallas auction, slated for September 20-23 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, are a pair of vintage gas pumps: one, a clock-face Phillips 66 Model 850 manufactured by Tokheim in the 1930s, and the other, a Skelly Tokheim Model 39 pump from the 1940s-‘50s featuring a Stationliter. Other items sure to catch the attention of bidders in Texas include a single-sided, embossed tin 1950s Grapette bottle cap sign, as well as a Mills Punch-A-Bag arcade game from the 1910s-‘20s.
Up next, the division will take the show back to the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis for Mecum’s 2023 Fall Special, bringing an impressive assemblage of Road Art lots from collector Chuck Schneider. Perhaps some of the more unique items from Schneider’s collection are his restored Ice Cream Cart Tricycle and a Tangley Calliaphone Cart with 10 paper music rolls and a 43-note keyboard. Sure to serve as a large statement piece for a new owner, a 13-feet tall, single-sided Frigidaire porcelain neon sign is also among Schneider’s offerings, and for those looking to get in touch with their inner child, there’s a King Amusement Boat Carnival Ride included among the selection’s several kiddie rides.
Road Art offerings will cross the auction block prior to vehicles at both auctions, and options for in-person, telephone and internet bidding start at $100, offering bidders the opportunity to get in on the auction action in whichever way suits them best. To register to bid for either or both auctions, visit Mecum.com.

However, Rennsport isn’t the only cause for celebration, with two other On Time auctions currently celebrating 75 years of NASCAR heritage. The Celebrating 75 Years of NASCAR Legends collection features a wide variety of models, posters and more honoring NASCAR and NHRA drivers like Richard Petty, Bill Elliott, Harry Gant, Davey Allison, Don Prudhomme, Tony Pedregon and more, while the NASCAR Fine Art Collection offers a distinctive canvas: not the familiar physical parts, rarities and collectibles, but the visual masses of artwork that capture the essence of NASCAR. Among the 41 lots on offer from the latter On Time auction are various paintings, drawings and photographs, some of which have even been signed by legendary drivers like Jeff Gordon and Rusty Wallace.
Registering to bid for On Time auctions is free and easy at OnTime.Mecum.com, and bid increments for lots in the two auctions start as low as $1. For each auction, lots start closing at 2 p.m. on their respective days, with a new lot closing every minute until all lots have been sold.
