Got Signs?

Got Signs?
Richmond Auctions is at it again, this time with a two-day sale commencing August 26 and concluding August 27, but online bidding is going on now. With a treasure trove of stunning signs from the oil, gas, and motoring industry, there will also be a day devoted to a stunning John Deere collection with some of the rarest pieces on earth.
One of the most interesting signs coming on offer though is Lot 272, an extremely rare Musgo Gasoline sign. Measuring 48-inches in diameter, this particular sign was discovered in an attic in a home in Michigan and was unused and never seen by the public. An absolute fresh-to-market sign, The Authentication Company graded one side as 9.5 and the other at 9.25 – for the record, TAC never gives a grade of 10, so this is basically the best any sign can be.
Interestingly, Musgo signs are exceedingly rare for a number of reasons, but legend has it that when the company filed for bankruptcy, their warehouse full of signs was sold to a plumbing contractor. All of the signs were 48-inches, which was perfect as a hatch for septic system tanks – so, using his resources, the plumber used the signs as hatch doors for septic systems he installed, thusly ruining many of the signs, creating a vacuum of rarity. Current bidding for Lot 272 is at $220,000. Don’t worry, there are plenty of other signs and cans and amazing things that won’t cost as much as a house. Learn more here.
