It’s More than Just Storage

It’s More than Just Storage

It started way up north in Seattle, Washington when in August of 2017 The Shop opened for the first time.  A massive warehouse in a warehouse part of town, The Shop was a place for car enthusiasts to park their cars, trucks, and bikes in safety and security, out of the weather and out of the way.

While common-shared warehouse storage isn’t a new concept by a longshot, the idea has recently gained steam with more involving activities.  In fact, it’s like belonging to a country club.  Depending on the facility, buying into a membership allows for various perks and benefits ranging from special classes to space to work on a car to detailing sessions and much more.  Beyond that members can often enjoy special members-only rallies to special destinations, movie nights, cruise ins, and parties.  Not to mention the networking possibilities.

While it started in Seattle, The Shop has expanded with two additional locations in Dallas and Houston.  The Dallas location is in the area of Love Field Airport, not far from DFW Airport, and like the Seattle location, it’s in a warehouse part of town.  With signage and big glass windows, it’s a lot more welcoming than the neighboring buildings, and encourages visitors to partake in The Derby restaurant and the gift shop.  Or maybe get trimmed up at the barber shop.  Or enjoy a cigar.  Members can enjoy some TV time, solitude in the business center, or go test their skills on the racing stimulator.  There’s even a hidden room.

Beyond all the cool nuggets are roughly 300 cars owned by people from all over the world.  While most are held by regular car guys, some are owned by well-known personalities from the sports, entertainment, political, and business communities.  Knowing time is of the essence to most of their members, The Shop offers mechanical services, detailing services, and can act as a concierge, tending to ensuring a car makes its appointments around town for tires or whatever.  In fact, during our visit, the company was fast at work installing a new engine in a Ford Bronco.  The idea is simple: make sure the cars are ready to go when the owner is.  Of course, they’re not telepathic at The Shop – the owner needs to call in and tell the staff what they need to do.

The Derby is a terrific addition too, and allows for the public to engage with The Shop by stopping by and having a little breakfast, lunch, or dinner.  With a full menu, there’s something for everyone, ranging from appetizers to main courses and desserts.  Hours vary, so check the website Derby Restaurants  If you’re in the area, stop by and visit – it’s well worth the time.  Meanwhile, learn more here Car & Motorcycle Storage and Secured Parking in Dallas, TX
