Known for The World’s Largest Collector Car Auction® in Kissimmee, Florida, and The World’s Largest Vintage & Antique Motorcycle Auction in Las Vegas, Mecum Auctions is adding a third record-sized auction to its annual calendar of events: The World’s Largest Road Art® Auction, slated for June 20-25 at Mecum Auctions’ headquarters in Walworth, Wisconsin. Taking place in Wisconsin’s southern lake country, the auction is prepared to bring Road Art® collectors from around the world together, offering them a chance to come for the auction action and stay for the camaraderie.
Among the thousands of collectibles up for bids is a wide range of signs, gas pumps and globes, soda pop items, vintage advertising, kiddie rides and much more. Featured signs include a pair of Kelly Tires signs, one a ripple tin milk glass neon sign from 1930 and the other a pair of porcelain signs mounted back-to-back in their original ring—one of the only examples left in such a state.
For movie fans, there’s the Star Lanes sign featured in “The Big Lebowski,” and for the automotive-minded enthusiasts, there’s two neon signs from historic automotive icons: a 1950s porcelain neon sign that once hung on the long-time roadside icon Sam’s Auto Parts in Detroit, and the original one-of-one sign from the renowned Rocco and Cheater’s Speed shop in Birmingham, Alabama. Other featured lots include a rare and unusual, 1-gallon Marathon Motor Oil can and a Texaco Fire-Chief Hat gas pump globe that’s believed to be the only in existence.
