It’s right on top of us! I really wish I were going; I miss Monterey something fierce. If I could, I think I would move to Monterey, I absolutely love it and never get tired of going there or being there. And then there’s Car Week. It’s like Disneyland for car guys, but it comes to you – if you live in Monterey. That’d be great.
Nicely, the Automobilia scene is growing, and I do hope you’ll check out Tony Singer’s new Poster Pop-Up event Sunday August 11 to Wednesday 14 from 1:30-6pm. Held at 235 Crossroads Blvd. in Carmel, it should prove to be an amazing event with scads of original posters and advertising pieces on hand. All proceeds go to the Monterey Rape Crisis Center, a charity Tony has supported for two decades through his Automobilia Monterey event. Even if you don’t buy anything, it would be an amazing car guy museum, and lend lots of food for thought. If nothing else, meet Tony, he’s a great guy, and knows his stuff when it comes to original posters. Check it out here to learn more. On top of that, the Monterey Collector’s Expo will take place August 12 through 14 at the Embassy Suites Hotel. With some great automobilia vendors on hand, expect to also find vendors handling vintage radios and clothing accessories, books and even a car dealership. Should be interesting, learn more here. And then there’s also Retro Auto at Pebble Beach, again hosting a wide variety of vendors dealing in automobilia and other interests. Find our more here.
Of course, Mecum Auction Company always has a great selection of unique pieces for sale at the beginning of each day. This year should prove no different, including a very cool Speed Racer go-kart, a Porsche 917 junior car, a Robert Carter painting, and more. See more below.
So, for those of us who couldn’t make it this year, please, remember us! And also keep in mind, the goal is to launch another Garage Tour next year, so stay tuned. As usual, spaces are limited.
Mecum Auctions is set to make its annual appearance on the Monterey Peninsula this August 15-17, and its Road Art® division will take to the stage once again with some finely curated pieces set to cross the auction block prior to vehicles each morning. Among the highlights on offer are a pair of 6-foot-tall paintings by Robert Carter titled “Harley-Davidson Dodge City” and “Shelby at Sebring,” both of which have been displayed at museums and raceways. Two junior cars, one a 2020 Porsche 917 70% scale car in Gulf livery and the other a 2/3-scale 1990 F Racer that is styled after the iconic Ferrari F40, will also be up for grabs; the junior cars feature 270cc engines and can reach top speeds of 28 and 35 MPH, respectively. Meanwhile, the On Time® world is as busy as ever with numerous auctions currently underway offering everything from tractors and farm implements to tether cars, Camaro parts, Ferrari and Shelby memorabilia, and more.
