Shopping for Pop: Father’s Day Guide!

Shopping for Pop: Father’s Day Guide!

With Father’s Day fast approaching, it’s time to do a little thinking about what to buy the special guy.  There are so many companies with so many options, it’s tough to choose.  So, for the garagista dad, we’ve compiled a small list of things to consider and hope it’s helpful!

Meanwhile too, enjoy a visit to Ron Sturgeon’s garage in Texas.  An amazing place, his home suffers a lot of garage creep, whereby his things creep into the house, so to alleviate this, he formed a museum, the DFW Elite Toy Museum, a dog friendly museum with dozens upon dozens of special, rare, and interesting toys.  Back in 2015, he invited me to see his home and garage and museum, and I couldn’t wait to showcase them in an issue of GSM.

It’s coming up quickly, Father’s Day is, so to help some of you along with gift-giving ideas, we’ve compiled a bit of a list!  Below are some fun and easy gift ideas that we think Dad will adore.

Mecum On Time

Mecum On Time provides the opportunity to find and bid on what might be a perfect gift, something very personal, very specific to Dad’s interests.  With hundreds of items up for bid, poke around and start bidding.  If nothing else, it’s fun.

Zymol Kits

Since 1981, Zymol has been bringing hand-crafted, naturally-based car care products to the enthusiasts of the world with great results.  For those who’ve never used Zymol, the company has a few kits making a kind of one-stop-shop – two of our favorites are the Starter Kit™ and the Titanium Smart Kit.  Titanium Wax is one of the most robust in the industry, creating a very hard layer atop the paint – perfect for a variety of challenges, it also provides a spectacular richness.  The Kit contains the Titanium Wax, HD-Cleanse, Clear Auto Bathe, a few applicators, and a Microwipe.  The Starter Kit is also fantastic, with some of the easiest to use Zymol products such as Auto Wash, Cleaner Wax, Spray Detailer, two Microwipe towels and two Microwipe applicators.  Follow the instructions to the letter, and terrific results should emerge.

Busted Knuckle Garage

Long in the business of delivering some very cool things for garagistas, BKG has gotten into the knife business in recent years.  One of their fun designs is the Car Guy Wrench Style Folding Knife, but they also have the gas pump knife and the hot rod knife.  Publisher Don used the hot rod and pump knife to help move and can attest these are not just decorative knives, they work fabulously.

Intro-Tech Automotive

With six layers of protection, the Ultimate Reflector Folding Shade is a force to be reckoned with in the heat.  Putting one across your windshield can result in a 50-degree difference in interior temperature versus just allowing the sun to blaze through.  It also helps reduce UV damage to the interior itself, reducing color fade and longevity.  It also helps the steering wheel stay cooler.

Garage Art

GarageArt.com has been vending our needful things for a long time now, and the company has grown leaps and bounds in the past several years from offering basic signs to offering an ocean of great products.  One of our favorites is the Mobilgas Tokheim 39 Gas Pump.  Produced during the 1940s and ’50s, the TK39 was hugely popular around the country.  While this one denotes Mobil, GarageArt.com can tailor your TK39 to any brand you like – just ask them.  Illuminated globe, assembly, and interior, the computer face glows beautifully.

Griot’s Garage

Getting older means getting smarter (usually), and for car guys that can mean learning to love thin, tough, nitrile gloves.  They keep your hands free of chemicals that might otherwise cause additional work removing later on – they truly are great to have around.  Griot’s Garage offers not only a box of gloves, but also a cool, wall-mounted Glove Dispenser to contain the box.

Grease Monkey USA

Ultra slim, this Brilliant Neonetics Ford Motorcraft Racing Slim LED Sign for Garage or Man Cave sign is lit with LED lights.  The slim design is just 3/8-inch thick, meaning it protrudes less off the wall, and the LEDs require less energy and create nearly zero heat.  Meant for indoor use only, Grease Monkey has a dazzling array of various garage products.

Lifetime

One of the most useful products ever, the workbench, can also be one of the most space consuming.  Sometimes, all we need is a little place for things and a little space to work – but not all the time.  Lifetime knows this, and brought about the Lifetime Wall-Mounted Work Table, a wonderful idea for saving space and providing space all at once.  When it’s not in use, it’s folded closed and reasonably flush against the wall – when it’s time to work, simply fold it down and it’s a work table and storage cabinet.  Buy two and line them up, maximize your space.

Tales from the Garage by Rodney Kemerer

Our very own Rodney has taken his Tales From the Garage and popped them into a book for easy access.  Making it even more car-centric, the book is shaped by an owner’s manual, and slips easily into glove compartments.  Packed with stunning graphics, the book is an easy read with terrific stories that pretty much anyone can relate to.  One needn’t be a car guy to relate to it.

The Other Side of the Fence by Bill Warner

Bill Warner is a name long known in the world of the automobile.  From racing to concours to manufacturers, Bill seems to know everyone in every corner, and they know him.  With a rich history in writing stories and taking pictures for a variety of magazines, Bill has captured innumerable images and told thousands of tales, many of which are captured within his book The Other Side of the Fence: Six Decades of Motorsport Photography.
