Slowly but Surely

Slowly but Surely

I haven’t met too many people who brought their garages together quickly. Most were brought together over time, organically, piece by piece. But, some things need to be done in bulk – like painting the walls and laying the floor. Somehow, those two single items hold so much weight in laying out a garage and setting a tone, it’s incredible. Mine is coming along – it still looks like it was decorated by a dirty bomb or two, but it’s coming along. I’m excited to get it to where I want it, but to be honest, I’m stuck at the moment. It’s a small garage, with no overhang on the left or right – literally, a car with longer doors will smack the wall. There’s not much overhang up front either, but there’s a workbench which may or may not be removed soon. Not sure. I want to set up a nice visual, of course, and lord knows I’ve got the wall accessories to apply that. But it also has to be functional – I like detailing cars. We installed a mini split so it would remain comfortable year-round. But the question has come, where and how to set up the detailing tools. Where do the microfibers get placed? The buffers? The pads? The dirty laundry? Without a lot of space on the left or right, it looks like everything needs to be relegated to the back wall, or at least most everything. Little by little I bring it together. Need to get rid of the old table and desk in there, which I hate to do, but we have no space for them. They look like they were used on a Bogart movie or something, incredible pieces. And I need to find a place for my Knight Rider kiddie coin-op car. But have no fear, it’s coming along – slowly but surely.

Of course, as I write this, Richmond Auctions is again hosting a spectacular sale of spectacular pieces that would be great in any environment, from the garage to the office to the den to the living room. It’s all I need at this moment – the chance to buy more stuff. But who can resist? Top that off with the AACA Hershey Fall Meet coming up in October, and I’m cooked.
