Needful Things

Needful Things

As collectors, we all suffer from the same deranged syndrome, gathering stuff. If we’re lucky, we don’t get too attached to the said stuff and are capable of letting things go and acquiring new things to replace them. A kind of out with the old, in with the new mentality. I am not really of that school – it’s hard for me to let go of anything, but it’s something I’ve had to learn to do since moving to a new state and into my own home with Mrs. Weberg and our daughter. But it’s been rough – but I’ve noticed, it’s made way for some new things, which has been fun. That said, Mecum is at it again, offering a lot of those fabulously needful things once again, and sadly, there are way too many interesting lots to choose from. Yes, I’ll be there, yes, I’ll be bidding, yes, I’ll more than likely lose, which is likely good for me at the moment. But I’m still looking forward to the fun. Take a peek at their incredible upcoming offerings below – hope I’ll see you there!

Mecum Auctions is set to bring the auction action to its home turf with its newest addition to its annual schedule of events: The World’s Largest Road Art® Auction, slated for June 20-25 at Mecum Auctions’ headquarters in Walworth, Wisconsin. Taking place in Wisconsin’s southern lake country, the auction is prepared to bring Road Art® collectors from around the world together in one place, providing a chance to not only bid on more than 3,000 lots, but to enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded enthusiasts.

The thousands of collectibles slated for the inaugural auction run the gamut of automotive memorabilia categories, ranging from dealership porcelain and neon signs, gas pumps and globes, to soda pop items, vintage advertising and much, much more. Among the featured lots ready to cross the block is a double-sided Pegasus rotating porcelain neon sign, the largest variation aside from the iconic sign that was once perched atop the Magnolia building in downtown Dallas. Exceedingly rare, it’s a wonderful example of the logo first used in 1911 by a subsidiary of Vacuum Oil Co. in Cape Town, South Africa. Other highlights include an original 1930s Harley-Davidson Motorcycles double-sided porcelain neon sign and a Pontiac single-sided porcelain neon sign, the latter of which features the Chief Pontiac logo and is the oldest known Pontiac neon sign in existence.
