Having presented countless garages in GSM, I thought I had a pretty fair idea for how I’d want my garage set up. But the fact is, there are so many directions to go in that I’m a bit lost in the whirlpool of options. We’re still in the cleanup phase, or cleanout phase I guess, with moving boxes to and fro since we moved here, so that helps. Nothing like a legitimate delay to help one find purpose, focus, and reason. The interesting part to me though is the change in direction. As a collector’s collector, I have tons of ‘stuff’ and was looking forward to arranging it, using it, displaying it – reliving it. But as time wears on, and more ‘stuff’ reveals itself to me, I am more inclined to clear the decks and create a space of less. Fewer things on the walls, fewer things in general. It’s weird. I blame Pete Aylett of carart.us who was recently forced into repurposing his 2-car garage, thanks to a massive water intrusion. His garage went from basic, everyday garage to a gallerage, or a gallery-garage, with fresh walls, fresh lighting, fresh flooring, and just the right amount of art hanging on the wall. The look is truly refreshing and I intend to do a nice profile on it soon so you can all see what I’m talking about. But I think that inspired me to go the other way, to change direction and try something a little out of the ordinary, at least for me.
Stay tuned.
