PORSCHE/RENNSPORT: A PERSONAL COLLECTION

The world is teeming with fans of the automotive racing sport, many of whom cherish the sport by collecting memorabilia; signed flags, die-cast models and posters adorn the walls of those who are inspired by the trade and eager to showcase the legends who persuade fans to adopt the hobby as a lifelong passion. While most racing aficionados watch from the sidelines of the circuits as the high-octane vehicles sling past at record-breaking speeds, there are a few fear-defying men and women who have an unrelenting taste for the pits and refuse to sit anywhere other than strapped into the 6-point harness that poses patiently in the driver’s seat. Racing enthusiast and Mecum Financial Director Lee Giannone—curator of Porsche/Rennsport: A Personal Collection, is one of those speed-chasing, goal-driven legends with a knack for collecting the best. There is still time to register for free and bid as this auction closes January 17.

The contents of this collection have been extracted from Lee Giannone’s personal collection of original art, posters, photos and memorabilia that has been assembled throughout the past 30 years of active vintage Porsche restoration and motorsports participation. He has owned, restored and competed in a serious roster of Porsche’s racing history over the past three decades, including the renowned Coca-Cola-liveried 1984 962 (Chassis 962-102), two 1975 factory RSRs, and the No. 12 1968 911L factory rally car, winner of the Swedish National Rally driven by World Champion Björn Waldegård. The collection includes official poster art from all Porsche Rennsport Reunions I through VI. These lots will make unique additions to any motorsports collection or display.

Highlights and iconic candidates on offer include Giannone’s Porsche 907 “1968 12 Hours of Sebring” 50th anniversary poster and a highly sought-after Porsche original factory poster, “The Porsche 962: 0-50 in 4.6 years”; these are hard-to-find pieces that don’t surface too often for public purchase.
