Car Week Guide – 2024

Car Week Guide – 2024

It’s known as being the final month of summer, and for anyone travelling to Monterey Car Week, it’s always a great way to close out the warm season. I’ll miss Monterey again this year, but am looking forward to a return in 2025! So, for those of you heading out that way, please enjoy, and know I’ll be envying you from afar!

That said, take a look below at some of the events going on at Monterey this year, and a couple of business suggestions. Hopefully you’re planning on attending at least one of them, but there are many going on, of course. There’s chatter too that come 2025, there will be a new Concours on the Avenue, but who knows. They’ve been trying to revive that one for a while, and it’s met with a lot of resistance from residents in the vicinity. So, who knows?

The lead image is near and dear to my heart, if you know my story of attending Monterey Car Week since 1999, you’ll maybe know why. If not, bring it up, and I’ll tell you sometime – but in short, I think it may well be the only place on the planet to find a scene like this.

Enjoy!

Mecum Auctions

Every year, Mecum hosts what they call the Daytime Auction, an event held Thursday, August 15 through Saturday, August 17 beginning at 8am.  An absolute frenzy of an event, Mecum offers connoisseurs a variety of cars ranging from muscle cars to classics to vintage to new classics to exotics.  Coming on offer at Monterey, for example, is a collection of Panteras – five, to be exact, a luxurious Lusso, a GTS, and three ultrarare GT5-S.  For fans of the midengined design, the 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400 S is a great alternative.  Anyone who’s been on the Garage Style Magazine Garage Tour will likely known Gary Wales’ amazing creations, and one is coming up for sale at Mecum Monterey, the American LaFrance la Bestioni Torpedo Roadster in screaming yellow with lots of brass and a 900 CI twin-cam inline 6-cylinder engine – see it here 1919 American LaFrance La Bestioni Torpedo Roadster.  Literally, there is something for everyone.  On top of that, automobilia, or Road Art, is on offer to spice up the day, with paintings by our friend, Robert Carter, and likely our favorite, a Porsche 917 Gulf Junior Car 2020 Porsche 917 Gulf Junior and more. Get Details about this Event.

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

The anchor event of the entire week, largely the reason everyone gathers at Monterey for Car Week is the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.  This year, the Concours will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024 and celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Packard, Maserati, Frua Coachwork, Wedge-Shaped Concept Cars and 1990s BPR & FIA GT Race Cars.  To boot, of course, Pebble Beach Concours offers a number of spectacular other events such as the Tour d’Elegance, RetroAuto, the Forums, and more.  One can could literally spend a whole week doing only by Pebble Beach events!  Get Details on this Event.

Exceptional Dining

While you’re tooling around Monterey and its’ surrounds, you’ll notice an abundance of restaurants.  One of our very favorites is International Cuisine in Pacific Grove.  The owner, Ferris, is a true car enthusiast with a penchant for modern exotics – interestingly though, he likes buying damaged examples and repairing them.  His restaurant is spectacular and features a host of wonderful items from around the world, a little of this and a little of that.  International Cuisine – Pacific Grove, CA – 620 Lighthouse Ave
