Slightly Post Midsummer Happenings

Slightly Post Midsummer Happenings

Technically, Midsummer is in June, so calling July events “Midsummer” is technically wrong.  But, Midsummer can loosely refer to the month of July, can’t it?  I mean, it’s not June or August, often thought of as early and late summer, so that makes July Midsummer – right?  Whatever – the bottom line is, Mecum has some wonderful opportunities to acquire some spectacular pieces in the middle of the summer.  Mecum On Time is a fun way to find some really interesting things that otherwise would not likely find their way into a live auction – like an early Porsche 911 tachometer or set of Ford 351 CI V-8 valve covers or oceans of die-cast and build-your-own models; On Time is a lot of fun, and below are a few wonderful collections on offer right now.  For those looking for some heavier automobilia or actual vehicles, the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania sale is quickly approaching too.  Some great vehicles and automobilia are already consigned, a few of which are highlighted below.  Take a look, I’ll hope to see you there!

On Time Opportunities

Mecum On Time brings the excitement of finding unique collectibles right to your favorite chair.  Or, wherever you can get Internet access, for that matter.

Three exciting auctions that are currently live are The MotoExotica Automobilia Collection, which is divided into two parts, and volume 10 of the Elite Die-Cast collection.

MotoExotica Part 1 is a stunning array of die-cast models and tin toys to automotive photography, race gear, and more.  MotoExotica Part 2 brings together an assortment of vintage bikes, E-bikes, and really uncommonly seen parts and accessories.  Meanwhile, the Elite Die-Cast Vol. 10 brings together a gobsmacking assemblage of very unique die-cast cars and dioramas from various manufacturers.

July 23-26, 2025: The Event at Harrisburg

Long one of our favorite Mecum events, the Harrisburg sale showcases over 1,000 vehicles and a very nice selection of automobilia.  This year will be no different, so if you can, make plans to attend.  Nice thing about the modern day, if you can’t be there in person, you can bid online or over the phone.  Here are four of the very interesting pieces coming on offer.

Featured Lots

Lot 451 - - Bennett Barker Clock Face Gas Pump

Lot 451 - Bennett Barker Clock Face Gas Pump

Hailing from the 1930s, Lot Z451 is a Bennett Barker clock face gas pump, finished in simple black and white with a contemporary Crown globe. All the lights are said to work and it towers a little over 7-feet tall, easily commanding attention anywhere it stands.

Lot 452 - - 1920s Red Crown Milwaukee 626 Visible Gas Pump

Lot 452 - 1920s Red Crown Milwaukee 626 Visible Gas Pump

Lot Z452, a Milwaukee 626 visible gas pump in Red Crown livery, is another very cool piece. Hailing from the 1920s, this one lights up beautifully and has a lovely white hose with a nice nozzle. Definitely not something often seen.

Lot 258 - - 1953 Esso Double-Sided Porcelain Sign

 Lot 258 - 1953 Esso Double-Sided Porcelain Sign

An original double-sided porcelain Esso sign, Lot Z258 is marked I.R. 53. A., which translates to Ingram-Richardson 1953. Measuring 88x60 inches, it’s a large sign that presents beautifully in spite of its age.

Lot 259 - - Cities Service Double-Sided Porcelain Sign

Lot 259 - Cities Service Double-Sided Porcelain Sign

Showing some charming patina of use, wear, and experience, this 1950s double-sided porcelain “Cities Service” sign, Lot Z259, is a must for any garage, office, or bedroom. Okay, that might be a little much, but if you’re single, it might be okay. That said, it measures 72x72 inches, so it’ll need a larger space to hang from – but what a gorgeous sign.
