Another Monterey Car Week in the Books

Another Monterey Car Week in the Books

Leaving Monterey has always been bittersweet.  First, I love the area and never really want to leave.  But second – it always feels like an ending.  It’s like the end of the year.  Yes, there are other events, but none are quite like car week.  And with this end comes the new season, so really, it is a beginning – a new school year, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas, New Years, and before we know it, we’re back at Monterey Season.  But the end of August is still an end.  For the most part, around the world, the special cars need to be put away to avoid the weather.  And that’s a bummer.  BUT, the end of August is a great time to begin (there’s that word) cleaning things up from the Summer’s fun.  So, I’m going to start showcasing a few things to help out around the house and car in the coming issues – not sure where I am at the moment with this issue, so it might begin here.  Who knows?  But I hope it’s helpful!

Also in coming issues, our own roving reporters Eric Miller, Frank and Yara DiPaola, Rich Pepe, and Howard Koby will be sharing their times at Monterey during Car Week, so we have that to look forward to.  In a world that moves like a spastic Irish Setter, we are delivering our coverage a bit slow this year – I was not there to upload on the go, and Gran Touring Motorsports’ Crew Chief Eric wasn’t on hand to do the faster-than-greased-lightning tech thing – so, I’m hopeful you’ll enjoy our yearbook style coverage!  Such a print way of doing things, isn’t it?  Olds habits, I guess.

And as an added bonus, a few of my fellow creators on the Motoring Podcast Network have put together some delightful recaps of Car Week 2025, including a historical retrospective on the overall Pebble Beach winner the “Tulipwood” Hispano-Suiza.

Followed by a review of several of the auctions including: RM/Sothebys, Gooding and MECUM.

and then William Ross from the Exotic Car Marketplace, follows Jon Summers’ review with and episode about the top selling Ferrari’s at Pebble, which accounted for the Top 1% of highest grossing vehicles sold at auction during the week.

If you enjoyed these episodes, be sure to check out all the other programming available on the MPN, via Apple, Spotify or YouTube. Meanwhile – in THIS issue – please have some fun looking at all the pictures from our friend, Steve Legel in Detroit, Michigan.  He restored and repurposed an old bowling alley in his neighborhood, and it’s fabulous.  Read his lengthy story, and you’ll find it wasn’t a walk in the park – in fact, it wasn’t really a walk at all, more like a tumbling stumble down the Matterhorn.  But, Steve got it done and has provided a gem for his community.  Take a look.
