My Dad always told me to clean my tools before I put them away. When you’re a kid, it might seem kind of weird – after all, who cares, they’re just going to get dirty on the next job. But it didn’t take long for me to learn, that next job goes more pleasantly when the tools are clean, organized, and ready. As Summer segues into Autumn, it’s time to start thinking about putting away the toys and prepping a bit for the colder seasons ahead. While it’s important to clean up the cars before you put them away, we also need to focus on making sure the garage is ready as well.
After a fun summer, the garage might be in a bit of disarray. Why put a clean car in a dirty garage? Afterall, won’t the return of car season, Spring and Summer, be more pleasant if the car and the garage are ready to serve? Of course it will.
So, before time comes that the cleaning must be done, let’s get ahead of the curve. Let’s start simply with simple decluttering – toss out old boxes, bottles, cans, and so on. Get rid of the old magazines and brochures laying around. Sometimes we have multiple bottles of the same product, like three bottles of a certain brand of spray wax. Same bottle times three – can we consolidate the product into one bottle? Have all the tools been cleaned up and put away? Are all their cubbies clean too? You know how to do this, so get to it! Next time, I’ll bring some interesting product ideas that might help with some jobs.
