Happy New Year, everyone. Somehow, that famous line from “The Air Force Song” seemed a fitting metaphoric title for my first column of the year. Unlike the song, in which they knew what awaited, as a New Year unfolds, we really don’t. We have ideas, of course, some of us have scheduled places to go, people to see, things to do… but there’s always the mystery of the wild blue yonder. If I’ve learned one thing about life, it’s that having some plans is a good thing, at least for me. How to spend the day, where will the hours go. I’m not always the best at planning, but I do what I can. So, I look forward to car shows and swap meets and auctions, along with plans for work and family. One thing worth attending is Mecum Auction’s flagship event at Kissimmee, Florida going on right now. Where else would one want to be in chilly ol’ January? Nicely too, when the day dictates something other than an auction, Kissimmee and its’ surrounds have a seemingly endless options of things to do. See some of what’s going on at Mecum below. Also, enjoy a note from Paul Oliver, as he tells us a story of racing friends to pickup a pair of lost flip-flops – it’s a tale of an MG B versus a Nissan Skyline versus a Honda S600 and the police hot on their tale in a Mini Cooper. Yes, it was the ’60s. Thanks for stopping by – Happy New Year, embrace and enjoy the Wild Blue Yonder!
