Slicing into Fabian Oefner

Slicing into Fabian Oefner

A Fabian Oefner piece won’t be cheap – but it won’t likely cost as much as a Ferrari either.

A hugely talented artist, part of Oefner’s portfolio is the creation of spatial books.  Dumbfounded by the term ‘spatial book,’ once we found out what it was, we discovered the concept to be painfully easy and spectacularly fascinating.  Oefner casts an item in a resin block.  The block is then sliced into multiple ‘resin pages’ or ‘resin sheets,’ and bound into a leather book format, allowing a reader to go through the item sheet-by-sheet, watching the item come apart layer-by-layer.  Truly a fascinating way to look at anything.

First shown to us by our partner in crime, Rich Pepe, one of Oefner’s books is very fitting today, given the Ferrari fever swirling around with Mecum and other auction houses in the past couple of months.  This book ensconces a diecast model Ferrari 250 in resin, sliced into pages, creating a hugely unique way to dissect the body, engine, and chassis, gaining a view very few have ever seen.  In 2023, he sliced up a Bentley Blower and in 2020 he sliced up a coffee pot to create spatial books.  Visit his website STUDIO OEFNER, and see the video of the Ferrari 250 Spatial Book here
