Mod and Glassy in the Hills of Northern California

Mod and Glassy in the Hills of Northern California

Just a few hours away from the hustle bustle of the big city is a spectacular gem of a home with a lovely garage-office situation.  Constructed of concrete, glass and steel, the home is nestled into a grove of old trees that all but hide it from the world, creating a wonderfully secluded hideaway for the owner.  While the home is a thing of wonder, the garage is just as impressive, as is the collection of cars and memorabilia.

Like the house, the garage is replete of clutter – just a few things here and there to let the cars shine as the stars.  Some of the cars are hand built, one-of-a-kinds celebrating the art of the hot rod, while others are a tad more traditional, such as a mint condition Datsun 240Z and Porsche 356 among others.

Both sides of the garage are flanked by floor-to-ceiling glass walls, allowing for a fabulous inside-outside feel, and giving a great visual when the sun is setting and the lights are on inside.  The owner has carved out some space for his office in the garage as well, but admits that very little income-generating work is done here, in fact it’s mostly income depleting work that goes on in this office – buying cars and parts and finding out when and where the next events are.  Behind the desk is a door that leads to a lovely patio that connects to the main house and provides a fabulous escape from the world.  At the head of the garage is a great workshop that allows for minor restorations of parts and components.  While we were visiting, the steering wheel for the mint-condition 240Z was being sanded and prepped for refinishing.

Quiet and hidden from the world, it’s truly a paradise for car guys.
