Look it up on your maps! And you think you have powerful engines in the USA, here’s one in Australia that’s a Deutz sand dragster/tractor with twin V8 motors, built for competition. Its name is “Tonawanda.”
Each motor is a Chevrolet 454 CI with twin superchargers and twin SU 1/34 carbs. They have a Crower 4 plate centrifugal clutch coupled to ZF 12 speed transmission and final drive. The tyres are 30.5 inch by 32 Firestone Puller tyres.
Built in 1982 and re commissioned in 2012 for Karoondah Centenery (after 21 years as a pot plant stand!) by Dick Cheriton.
Karoondah is a very rural ,small and lovely town that time forgot; ; the population is 517 and the local garage is named Karoondah Mechanical Services, run by the Cheritons.
Dick Cheriton and his wife are a charming and friendly couple who run the garage together. It is a step into the past and features many new/ old stock parts and accessories on the shelves and petrol is personally served by both of them to customers from the retro pumps.
They both enjoy a Stylish Garage view across the road as they work and live.
The town features large grain silos in the Main Street. These display a number of beautiful murals which are very popular with locals and tourist viewing. Each night a single different tower is lit and a broadcast story is given about it. All this at no cost for the viewer!
