The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering

The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering

Celebrating 20 years, The Quail, as it’s well known, featured a spectacular array of vehicles on the lawn and a number of unique conferences from RUF Automobile, Czinger, Pininfarina, Maserati, Rolls-Royce, Hennessey, Lamborghini, Kia, Singer Vehicle Design, Jaguar Land-Rover Classic, and many more.

With displays on hand, manufacturers presented a number of concept vehicles intermingled with cars currently available in the showroom, allowing guests to experience what they can take home now and in the future.

A Reunion to Quail Run with parade laps around the field was spiced by Laguna Seca racecars; a Fireside Chat, moderated by Maurice Merrick, featured Emerson Fittapaldi, who discussed his experiences in the world of motoring; and military-style jets flew overhead streaming colored smoke.

And, of course, The Quail would not be The Quail without the numerous dining opportunities with foods and drinks from around the world. It all rounded out an event known for its casual elegance and unhurried nature, providing for a lovely day all around.

By days end, the Rolex Circle of Champions Best of Show was awarded to Anne Brockton Lee of Nevada for her 1956 Ferrari 410 Superamerica Superfast 1 – Lee would also take home the Early Bentley 1950s R-Type Coupe Award for her 1952 Bentley R-Type Continental Prototype.

Interestingly, we have been in communication with Lee for a number of years, our schedules in constant disagreement to set a date to photograph and feature her collection – maybe we’ll get together in 2024. Wrapping in a C-shape upon the golf course at The Quail Lodge in Carmel, California, the event hosts roughly 200 vehicles from various genres and nations. There is something for everybody. There was even a DeLorean on hand.

We highly recommend attending The Quail, even if it’s the only event you attend while enjoying Monterey Car Week. While it’s expensive, we felt it was well worth the cost of admission – the people were in good moods and courteous, the vehicles were beyond reproach, the setting was lovely, and simply put, The Quail is an extraordinary event.

Tickets are sold via lottery only, and the next event is scheduled for Friday, August 16, 2024 – normally the tickets become available early in the year, so check their website and visit their Facebook and Instagram often to keep informed.
