THE XYZ COLLECTION

THE XYZ COLLECTION

Welcome to automobile fan boy heaven. I am your host, Mr. Flabbergasted. I will be drooling along with you as we tour this absolutely bonkers garage located in coastal California. Mr. X (the owner politely asked that his information be withheld) is a most gracious host, allowing me into the inner most sanctum of any red-blooded human being’s wildest car dreams.

The building itself was conceived and constructed by the team at PWS Construction. PWS specializes in garage builds, often times specifically for collections similar to this one.

Entering the first of the five garage doors, the level of hardware within creates a light-headed sensation, as though being whisked inward on a magic carpet towards an all-too real oasis. Your eyeline is drawn directly to the brightness of the 2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ finished in Blue Cepheous first and foremost. This gorgeous monster is powered by a 6.5L V12 with a 7-speed gearbox controlled by paddle shifters. The car is AWD and has a top speed of more than 217 MPH. With a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds, it would probably take longer to pick a booger than it would for this arrow-shaped rocket to achieve freeway speeds/ The aerodynamics alone look as though they came back from the future. The side ducts are large enough to accommodate a small child, and the rear wing is enough to make any spec boy pass out. With all of this craziness, the car is still civilized enough to drive comfortably in and around town without feeling like you got in a street fight.

Among other toys and gadgets, his current collection includes a 2018 Porsche GT2RS, a 2014 McLaren P1 (1 of only 375 in the world) which boasts a healthy 903 HP Hybrid Twin Turbo V8 as its power plant and the one car out of the collection that Mr. X affectionately refers to as “violent.” Other residents of the garage include a 2014 Ferrari F12 with a 740HP V12, a 1993 Dodge Viper previously owned by a famous musician, a 2021 Yamaha R1, a 2020 Ducati V4 which was built up by HSBK Racing, a 1996 Ducati 916, and a 2015 BMW R19. As if that weren’t enough, he also has a 2023 Ferrari SF90 Spider on order which will be coming soon.

Past vehicles in his collection have included a Porsche 918 Spider Hybrid, a Porsche Carrera GT, a Bugatti Veyron, a Ford GT, a Ferrari 488 Pista, a Ferrari 458 Italia, a Ferrari Portofino, a Ferrari GTB, a McClaren 570s, and a Porsche GT3. He says one of his next ventures may be looking into a LaFerrari. Mr. X has an excellent standing relationship with his preferred Ferrari dealer. He is loyal enough that he will only buy or sell a Ferrari if it is through that dealer and no one else. That is a lot to be said for car collecting, where alliances can be formed and broken at the drop of a crypto coin.

The garage itself is a steel structure, with steel sheeting and interior insulation. The exterior has wood beam support poles for the overhangs, and is meticulously landscaped. Steel is a very smart choice for a garage as it requires very little maintenance, and manufacturers usually have a warranty program. Mr. X’s garage matches the style of the main house, and is separated by outdoor living areas, including a budding garden area with fruit trees and vegetables. The area is so quiet you can hear sounds of nature before any far-off neighboring property sounds.
