When I started looking over the items from the Aberdeen Creek Collection coming on offer at Mecum’s Indy auction beginning tomorrow, May 8 through May 16, and online at Mecum On Time, I was positively blown away. I know, I’m easily impressed, but there are some really exciting pieces in that collection looking for a new home. The Indy sale will sell the Aberdeen Creek Collection on May 11, and it really is a stunning array of items from Pontiac to Indian to Dunlop and more. Amazing. If “in-person” bidding isn’t your thing, there are three volumes of the collection on offer at On Time, and the bidding is open. With everything from banners to globes, gas and oil products to car advertising to railroad products, it’s really an amazing assortment of items. See some of the highlights below, and visit the website and On Time to see the rest of the items on offer. Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s a fun cruise for ideas! I’ve spent my budget for a while, so I’m begrudgingly sitting this one out… but it’s okay, my garage is coming along slowly and I’m still having fun. And isn’t that what it’s all about?

Featured Lots
Lot 246 - 1948 Gulf Lube Single-Sided Embossed Tin Sign
Lot Y246 is amazing, a single-sided, embossed tin Gulf Lube sign from 1948. Imagine, a piece of tin surviving that long and retaining much of its color and shine. Really a stunning piece.
Lot 247 - Gulf Dealer Double-Sided Porcelain Sign with Metal Hanger
Lot Y247 is a kind of gobsmacking item, a double-sided 43-inch diameter Gulf Dealer sign complete with a metal hanger. It’s just not often a Gulf Dealer sign emerges from the shadows.
Lot 248 - Gulf Double-Sided Embossed Plastic Sign
Lot Y248 is a very cool piece, a double-sided 80-inch diameter embossed plastic Gulf sign.
That’s 6-ft, 4-in, roughly the size of a short basketball player, a hugely impressive piece that appears to have been well taken care of and largely kept out of the elements. Nice.
Lot 249 - Gulf Bennett Model 541 Gas Pump
Lot Y249 is another fun piece in Gulf company livery, a restored Bennett Model 541 gas pump complete with a globe on top. Standing 6-ft, 2-in tall, the pump is impressive, but topping it with a roughly 15-in tall globe just makes it absolutely stunning. Complete with the keys, it hails back to around 1940 and might just be perfect for the office or living room.

The Aberdeen Creek Collection Vol 2
The second volume, The Aberdeen Creek Collection Vol 2, is comprised of very unique signs, pumps, globes, flags, banners, paper goods – a truly broad assortment of collectibles.
