One of my favorite parts of going to Monterey Car Week every August are the parties. Some are hosted in garages, some are hosted in the home while the garage is open, and some are just on the driveway. Many are in businesses like dealerships and repair centers. No matter where they are, they’re fun. Good, relaxed camaraderie among car-minded people. A little bread is broken, a few stories are shared, a few laughs enjoyed. Nothing crazy, just a nice time among friends, even if you have no idea who these people are. But, a party among car fanatics doesn’t need to be relegated to Monterey Car Week or any other event – it can, in fact, be the event. Why not? Invite a few friends to bring their cars over and have some snacks. Maybe have a TV in the corner rolling a car-related movie like “Gumball Rally,” or “The Love Bug,” or some other lighthearted title. Be sure to have a few tables and chairs set up, and pull your cars out of the garage to make sure people can mill around. Maybe set up a monthly get together and go to other garages, get a feel for one another’s places. Fun times, and the weather is getting in the mood for these kinds of gatherings.
Meanwhile, enjoy this edition of the newsine – we got to visit with the new president of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and spent some time with Dominic DeMonico, who spends time recreating scale models of gas stations, dealerships and other structures of interest in stunning detail to reminisce about and complement a few diecast cars.
Thanks for stopping by!
