Auburn Car Week

Auburn Car Week

Held in conjunction with the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Festival Aug 27 to Sep 3, Worldwide Auctioneers’ Auburn Auction, held Sep 1 to Sep 3, is always a spectacular sale. Nicely, while Worldwide has a reputation of selling primarily prewar vehicles, the catalogue for this event is showing a lot of awesome modern classics that I’m really excited about – even an Acura NSX, DeLorean, a flurry of Corvettes, and a nice selection of cars like the Impala 409 and early Nova Convertible. But, for those who prefer the classics, Worldwide is aiming to please with some stunning Duesenbergs, Cords, Bentleys, and more – two of my favorites (not from these early days, but inspired by them) are the 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham and the 1956 Continental Mark II coming on offer – exquisite!

All this said, the Worldwide Auburn Auction is remarkable in many regards – it’s an auction, of course, but it’s amid a swap meet, a car corral, a cruise-in, a parade, and more. So, it’s a remarkable, all-in-one package for enthusiasts to love. Check out some of the exciting items coming up for bid at Worldwide’s September 1-3 sale below! Register to bid here and take advantage of online or telephone bidding – obviously time is very, very tight, so act now!! Enjoy and good luck!

Lot 607 - - 1982 DeLorean DMC-12 Lot 607 - 1982 DeLorean DMC-12

Showing under 3,000 miles that are believed to be original, this DeLorean has been kept by the same family since 1983. It looks to be hugely original and is still wearing the factory-equipped Goodyear tires. In recent years, DeLoreans have been skyrocketing in value with lower-mile examples like this one usually commanding the most financial attention.

Lot 635 - - 1991 Acura NSX Lot 635 - 1991 Acura NSX

It’s got a few miles on it, nearing 70,000, but that can be a good thing for modern supercars like the NSX – it shows they’ve probably been driven, maintained, and updated. While earlier hidden-headlight NSXs normally command less money than their rarer exposed headlight younger siblings, these are often considered the purest of design, the original concept of the New Sportscar eXperimental.

Lot 5034 - - Original RAC Silverstone Racetrack Directional Sign Lot 5034 - Original RAC Silverstone Racetrack Directional Sign

Double-sided porcelain, this sign is truly something you don’t see every day. An original directional sign from the Silverstone racetrack in England, it is complete with the Royal Auto Club logo and multiple affixing points. While the internet is rife with reproductions, this one is a true original.

Lot 537 - - 1972 Datsun 240Z Lot 537 - 1972 Datsun 240Z

Looking like a Jaguar E-Type and Ferrari GTO had a lovechild, the Datsun 240Z burst onto the scene and sent the sportscar market back to the drawing board. Reliable, nimble, comfortable, powerful, roomy, and very nicely priced, the Z became an enthusiast’s favorite and nothing has changed. They climbed considerably in value a few years back, and continue to climb steadily, although less aggressively, giving us the idea that it’s a good idea to snap one up now. This one appears to be hugely original right down to the Code 918 Orange paint.

Lot 606 - - Porsche Speedster Electric Go-Kart Lot 606 - Porsche Speedster Electric Go-Kart

Built by McLaren Restorations, this electric Porsche Speedster Go-Kart is fitted with working headlights and taillights, has newer batteries and brakes, and has a forward and reverse selector. A stunning little example of a toy 356 Speedster, the car features tan upholstery, white-face gauges, and many brightly-polished details.

Lot 5069 - - Ferrari 360 Challenge V-8 Display Engine with Stand Lot 5069 - Ferrari 360 Challenge V-8 Display Engine with Stand

Okay, so it’s a little bit much – an engine on a stand, who needs it? Well – any enthusiast! This one is said to be an original F-136-E engine first installed in a Ferrari 360 Challenge Coupe. When it was removed from the car, some internal items were removed from the engine. Detailed and appearing complete, Serial #116481 is mounted on a rolling engine stand. What a terrific conversation piece – who else has a Ferrari engine on a stand?

Lot 5043 - - Chieftain Motel Neon Sign Lot 5043 - Chieftain Motel Neon Sign

Especially if you collect 1950’s Pontiacs, this sign would really stand out, but even just as a collector, this sign is spectacular. Red, blue, yellow, and white neon illustrate the Indian Chief above the white neon MOTEL lettering.

Lot 3059 - - Sinclair Tokheim 36A Pump Lot 3059 - Sinclair Tokheim 36A Pump

Professionally restored in Sinclair livery, this pump looks perfect for the living room or office. A 1930s-era pump, it has the original stamped steel top and visible glass meter, top and globe mounting. The face is illuminated, the nozzle looks ready to fill a tank.

Lot 341 - - 1950 AC Two-Litre Sports Tourer Lot 341 - 1950 AC Two-Litre Sports Tourer

The AC brand of cars has been in business much longer than most realize. In fact, it’s one of England’s oldest car makers, building luxuriously sporting cars long before the famed and fabled AC Cobra came along. This Two-Litre Sports Tourer is a prime example of the brand, and hugely exciting to see – less than 70 were ever made, and this one was originally ordered in black with roll-up side windows. With a known and unique ownership history dating back to new, this is a remarkable gem that few know about.
