Out with the Old, In with the Old

Out with the Old, In with the Old

Let’s face it – as collectors, the title of this note is fairly true. Out with the old, in with the old. People divest themselves of their old needful things, which we adopt as new-to-us, and the sellers move on to other things – often times new-old-things to them. One big circle of flow. Which, again, I know, I’ve said it thousands of times, is why I love auctions. There are so many cool things popping up that we didn’t know existed, didn’t know we needed – case in point, Wylie at Toys Trains and Other Old Stuff auction house is at it again – this time he’s bringing a massive array of items to bid, from toys to signs to gas-oil items to actual vehicles – even a Cushman scooter, which really has me wondering, don’t I need that? Or the super original Buick sedan, which appears to be a ’49 – okay, it’s a boring old doctor’s sedan, but find another one! Very original, with low miles, and it’s black, which makes that million-dollar grin just pop. They even have a vintage Mopar drag car from the 1960s. See some items below, pop over to their website for more. I’m registering and hoping you’ll join me.

Featured Lots

 - Lot of Die Casts Lot of Die Casts

This sale has an astonishing amount of die cast wheeled toys, ranging from farm equipment to tractor-trailers to antique fire equipment and more. You’ll see in this picture, the condition appears to be very good and many of the items look to be fairly vintage. Some are banks, some are simple static displays, but any of them would go far in spicing up a shelf or desktop.

 - 1949 Buick Super 1949 Buick Super

Said to have less than 35,000 original miles, this Buick Super is finished in black and has a grey interior. A four-door sedan, it’s one of a higher production models, the Super being a unique Buick using the larger body of the Roadmaster with the smaller chassis and engine creating an efficient vehicle. But, it was a well-equipped vehicle like a Roadmaster with a multitude of luxury appointments. The idea was a very comfortable vehicle with a more efficient drivetrain – big question is, does it have the Dynaflow?

 - 1935 Chevy Gas Truck 1935 Chevy Gas Truck

This early Chevrolet truck is fitted with a tanker body and finished in red with a black tank and white scripting advertising the Standard Oil Company. With a pop-forward front windscreen, this is certain to be a hit at any car show, cruise in, or cars and coffee event. An early example of a truck, there was a time when manufacturers based trucks on car chassis and bodies that had been modified for heavy-duty purposes, and this appears to be one of them.

 - Cushman Scooter Cushman Scooter

Finished in a cheery two-tone light blue over white, this vintage Cushman was an American response to the various European scooters. Complete with fender guards and a red pinstripe, a single seat and wide floor provides for a bit of comfort and convenience while a big headlight and a smattering of chrome allow for some night riding and bling. Cushman began making scooters in the mid-1930s, and during World War II, a large number of scooters were used by the military around the world, a practice that sustained long after the War was over. Styling was refined in the 1950s for a more spacy appearance in keeping with the Jet Age and production would cease in the mid-1960s, Cushman moving into the golf cart manufacturing business.

 - Converted 1965 Coronet Drag Car Converted 1965 Coronet Drag Car

During the 1960s, it was tough to beat a MoPar on any kind of track, but they were especially formidable on the ¼-mile. The 426 Hemis and Max Wedges they were building were insanely powerful and the envy of most racers at the scene. This Dodge Coronet drag car harkens back to those days and looks ready to race. Beautifully presented, it’s a rare piece as so many drag cars from the day were simply discarded for the next great thing. But here this one sits, awaiting a new home.

 - Vintage Plates Vintage Plates

A lovely collection of plates from the old old days is on offer too, in various conditions, but none seem to be horrible, all seem very presentable. Hailing from various states with innumerable colors, the display here is great, but we’re unsure if the whole display is for sale or single plates.

 - Mobil Pegasus Sign Mobil Pegasus Sign

Few things are as iconic to a motoring enthusiast as the Mobil Pegasus sign. The history of the Pegasus is fairly interesting and this one presents nicely with seemingly good color and gloss, registration of overall condition. A few blemishes are visible, but again, overall, it seems like a really nice example.

 - Miscellaneous Gas Station Memorabilia Miscellaneous Gas Station Memorabilia

An assortment of gas station items including a two-tone yellow and red Shell gas pump complete with a globe; a Tireflator air pump with a globe; an island light and a Standard service center – everything seems to be very presentable. Again, dipping into the die cast scene, in this picture, look at the very top and more are seen.
